The numbers on stainless steel kitchen sinks

I'm currently looking to replace my existing drop-in kitchen sink with a new stainless steel sink.

I am starting to learn that many of the sinks I look at have a gauge number.

Can you please explain the basic meaning of stainless steel sink gauge numbers and what you look for in a stainless steel sink?

To get everyone up to speed, a drop-in or top-mount sink refers to a sink you place into the existing countertop opening. Stainless steel kitchen sinks are relatively light, making them a nice choice for replacing existing top-mounted kitchen sinks.

I look for a few features when choosing a stainless steel kitchen sink: First, find one with an attractive brushed finish that is also scratch-resistant.

Second, check for sink bowls with engineered sound absorption technology.

Finally, look for a solidly constructed sink. Gauge numbers may help you with this.

Basically, stainless sinks with lower gauge numbers can be a little thicker than sinks with higher gauge numbers, and that's the thin and thick of it.
