We are a small store with a big heart! Our sales staff-- Nina Frantz, Adam Vaughan, and Josh McCallister-- listen carefully to find out what you are looking for. Then we show you in-store items and help you navigate our extensive catalog to find just the right piece for your home. We understand that a purchase like this takes time, and we want you to be informed about all of the options available to you.

Wide Selection

Our Amish builders create furniture in a variety of different styles. We work with over 25 Amish families, each with a specialty. Pieces can be built from one (or more) several different hardwoods, and finished in a wide array of stain colors.

Assured top quality

Six years ago when we got started we went with a close friend and expert woodworker from Goshen, Indiana to visit many of the Amish woodshops in Indiana. We were looking for attention to detail, solid technique, and striking design. We have continued to insist on these traits in our builders and are confident that you will appreciate the results.

Area producers known to us personally

Almost all the furniture available through Plain and Simple comes from Amish families in Elkhart and LaGrange Counties in north central Indiana. We have visited most of them in their workshops and talk with them frequently at trade events and by phone or voicemail. By shopping at Plain and Simple you are participating in a strong local network of people who stand by quality, treat one another fairly, and want the best you.

Convenient location

Plain and Simple is located in the Main Street Station shopping area in south Evanston. Surrounded by both street and off-street parking, our store at 713 Main St. is three blocks east of Ridge Ave. and four blocks west of Sheridan Road. In the entire Chicago metro area, we are the closest Amish furniture store to the city of Chicago.

Caring and careful people

Plain and Simple is a business of Reba Place Fellowship, a 50 year old non-profit Christian intentional community located in south Evanston. Over the years Reba Place has launched Reba Early Learning Center, the Overground Railroad, Ten Thousand Villages of Evanston, and other programs that have helped thousands of people. The furniture available through Plain and Simple comes from Amish families whose forebears for many centuries have embodied a lifestyle of simplicity, strong family commitments, hard work, and forgiveness.

Mission

The Mission of Plain and Simple is to support families and communities through the trade of fine hardwood furniture.
