Most modern coffee tables these days are 16 inches high, though some are only as high as 11 inches. This is an important consideration. You don't want a coffee table that's too low, causing you to have to reach for your drink, the TV control or a magazine. At the same time, watch for the knees. Coffee table furniture can be dangerous in the middle of the night.

that's such a good point - you do need to think about height of the coffee table, especially if you have kids. which height do you prefer? and they can be dangerous at night!
