If you love to hang out in the comfort of the great outdoors, and read while the leaves of the trees shade your eyes from the sun’s glare, then a hammock is a perfect addition to your outdoor furniture.

A hammock is typically a sling built from fabric, woven rope or netting, made to be suspended between two points. More often than not, it is used for leisure activities such as resting or sleeping. Being an outdoor fixture, a hammock is subject to the wear and tear of the weather.

Here are some easy repair tips to keep your hammock in tiptop condition:

1. Stretch – Hammocks typically shrink when not being used. This makes the hammock look small and uninviting. To remedy this, all you need to do is stretch the hammock to return the ropes to their original positions. You can also knot together the broken ends of the ropes, then adjust the spacing accordingly.

2. Inspect – As you would your other furniture, you should also check and see if your hammock has any loose ropes. If a loose rope is spotted, it’s time to put those knitting skills to the test. Knit using a clothesline cord to keep your hammock looking brand new.

3. Care – There are different types of hammock, depending on the materials used to create them. For string hammock, make sure that no sharp objects damage the strings.

4. Mount – Hammocks need to be mounted correctly to provide ample support, as well as have more swinging power. Check your hammock stand for any loose nails, chains or rope. This step is purely for safety reasons, since a brittle chain may cause the hammock to fall down and result in serious injuries.

5. Keep a first aid kit – Purchase a good hammock care kit. This comes with the tools you need to maintain, repair and even refurbish your hammock.

6. Purchase a good storage kit – Purchase a good storage kit for your hammock. When you are not going to use your hammock for a long period of time, keep it safe inside a proper hammock storage kit. Just leaving your hammock in a shed, where dust and mites can accumulate, will eventually affect the quality and sturdiness of your hammock.

7. Clean – Hammocks need to be cleaned as well. After all, this is where you lie down and relax. A hammock is very easy to clean. You can choose to hand wash or machine wash. Either way, you need a mild soap and a soft-bristled brush.

These are surefire ways to keep your hammock looking brand new. Remember that prevention is better than shelling out extra cash to purchase a new one.
