Captain's & Cunningham Chairs are now available at all Environment showrooms
So instead of making another new chair, we decided to dress up some old ones. A whole warehouse full, to be exact. The Captain is reclaiming at its finest: Environment CEO Davide Berruto stumbled upon a treasure of forgotten chairs from Washington University in a perfectly classic American shape, and with Jean-Marie Massaud's brilliant input, we’ve upcycled the whole lot of them. Pick from a handful of color combinations in three painting styles: Racing Stripe, Half Sanded or Solid. It’s never too late to be head of the (designing) class.
And then we decided to make a very special edition, the Cunningham
In 1950, American racer, Briggs Cunningham, entered two blue-and-white striped cars into the 18th Annual Twenty-Four Hours of Le Mans. As legend has it, due to the high costs and technical difficulties of international transport, Cunningham's team decided to focus on necessities and chose to leave out such comforts as seating while traveling to Le Mans. On arrival, the obvious need for such amenities became apparent, and ordinary chairs were "commandeered" from a local office, discreetly adorned with the team's iconic stripes and used around the paddock.
Although the team finished 10th, the aesthetic of international racing was forever changed with Cunningham's signature paint scheme, which went on to become synony- mous with American racing for decades to come.
There is an extremely limited supply of these chairs so once we have sold out, who knows when we will find more.
