As we come to the close of another year it’s time to look to future trends, and it’s time to see what’s coming up next in the world of commercial construction. Since commercial buildings impact our daily lives, and especially our environment, it’s important to pay attention to what’s new and what’s innovative in the world of construction. In the United States, the forward thinking and modernization of cities has become an extremely important factor in making urban areas more successful and prosperous. There are a few new industry trends predicted for 2015, and it will be interesting to see which of them will be most popular.

Here are some commercial construction trends to look for in the new year.

1. Less malls, and more shopping centers. For many business owners out there, having your store hidden away inside a large mall seems to be a trend that is becoming less and less popular. Even though it is unlikely that all malls will disappear overnight, businesses want to relocate to shopping centers to give themselves their own space. A lot of people who own their own shops prefer to be in a direct line of sight for their potential customers, something that is possible in a shopping center.

2. More restaurants are coming. Ten years ago the restaurant and dining industries were not as popular as they have been in the last couple years. More and more people want to create fancy, exotic and even casual places to eat to draw in customers to have a new experience. There seems to be a fad with food lately, and more and more people are interested in dining out instead of at home. With the economy rising people are able to dine out more frequently, and because of this boom in business restaurants are growing in popularity.

3. Less residential homes next year. There was a time when building houses was booming, and new neighborhoods were popping up in every direction. However, because of the recession many homes went up for sale, and people moved to cheaper neighborhoods or smaller living spaces. Because of the vacancies, it is expected that less residential homes will be built next year. Instead, the focus of the construction industry will be on unit homes such as apartment complexes and condos. Real estate agents will focus on selling homes that have already been built. This means that construction will have a focus on larger building areas and spaces compatible for a multitude of people.

4. More stores are being prepped to run around the clock. In the United States, making money and working hard to run a successful business is at the top of everyone’s priority list. In the next year, more stores are expected to operate around the clock, and many others will increase their store hours to follow suit. This trend will hopefully not only increase job opportunities, but also strengthen the economy.
