Do I HAVE TO use the mattress foundation?

I want to buy the Serta Remedy Plush King Mattress Set, which of course, comes with the foundation. I want to get a king bed which only holds the mattress and has the slats. I don't want my bed being so high, so do I have to use the foundation or can I just lay the mattress alone on the slats and will that be good enough? I'm not heavy, so there won't be tons of weight on the bed (if that even makes a difference).

I do not know about this mattress set, never heard of it. I think there will be no need of a foundation along with the mattress on a king size bed. So you can just lay the mattress on the slats and also, you can use a mattress protector for extra comfort and security.
