In 1936 my grandfather, Ralph Van Gorder, founded a new business--the Honesdale Furniture Exchange. Since that time, the business has grown and changed with the times. Now there are two Van Gorders' Furniture stores, each of them a dramatic showcase for distinctive home furnishings from across the country and around the world. In downtown Honesdale, the sprawling four-floor historic landmark that was originally the National Hotel has stood at the corner of Church and Sixth Streets since 1865. Don Van Gorder, my father, opened our modern second showroom at beautiful Lake Wallenpaupack in 1978.
