Over 55 Years of Experience

Tri-State Furniture has been doing business in Fort Madison since 1931. Originally it was a small family grocery run by Farris Rashid. Farris was one of the original brothers and sisters of a large family of merchants who has had businesses in Fort Madison since the turn of the century, when their parents emigrated from Lebanon. The Rashid Family has deep roots in the Fort Madison Community that continues today.

In the early 70's, the grocery store was closed and the family went into the full time Furniture and Appliance business. With a major expansion of space to the west, that is now our major showroom...John and Delores Pollpeter took over the family business and continues to grow the business with the expansion into major lines of furniture.

Delores Pollpeter started in the Grocery business with her father as a very young child and has literally worked on the corner of 5th and Ave G since the early 30’s. Delores continues to work at Tri-State Furniture even today part time.

In the early 50s, Farris worked out a deal on York Air Conditioners, which they agreed to sell them on a retail basis. That was the first introduction into home appliances. He then formed a relationship with Chittenden and Eastman Company, a furniture wholesaler located in Burlington, Iowa as his first supplier of home furnishings.

They carried two very strong lines of Home Appliances as well, namely Maytag and Whirlpool.

In 1991 a third generation, Tom & Pat Pollpeter, took over the business. Since then, Tri-State has had two major showroom expansions and added the furniture power houses of England and Ashley. On the appliance side they added Samsung, a high style and energy efficient line of upscale appliances and Frigidaire, a great appliance line affordable to most households.

Tri-State Furniture continues today with the principles that were important to the founder Farris Rashid. "Treat your customer well and sell quality furniture."
